Understanding Small Business Loans
In 2016, we worked on a campaign for the Opportunity Finance Network. Our goal was to increase awareness of the types of loans available to small business owners. This is the story of how I helped bring the campaign to life on the web.
I was responsible for creating the user experience for the website and online loan tool. I worked closely with the project manager and digital strategists on the project.
Our client approached us with two goals – to become a credible source for small business owners who are seeking credible information about small business lending and to create an online loan tool to help SBA’s find the right loan for them.
Because our client doesn’t offer loans, our job was to be a non-partisan resource. Because users may expect to apply for a loan using the calculator we created a Q&A checklist and CDFI locator.
Building the Sitemap and Wireframes
Most of the research was conducted for the broader campaign. After I reviewed the user interviews and research I developed a sitemap.
You can view the sitemap here.
The primary goal of the website is to get users to interact with the loan caparison tool. So I made sure that it was something users would be able to interact with it throughout the website. It was also important to highlight the steps a user should take to prepare for a small business financing.
It was important to make sure the tool would work on mobile as well.
We opted for a slider for the loan comparison tool to make it easier for mobile users to use. To see all the wireframes for this project click here.
Design & Development
I worked closely with the designer to ensure we were in sync with user interactions across the site. I also managed the development and QA process through the launch of the website.
